With Windows XP support ending in April 2014, and with this IE8,
it is (almost) possible to use same JavaScript
in most of modern web browsers...
And what would happen with all those still useful XP computers?
Convert to Linux, ChromeOS, or just keep running and use Chrome browser?
Most likely they will just keep running...
