Hit Window Key + R
"gpedit.msc"
Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Tools -> Control Panel -> Personalization in the left pane of the window
Double click (or tap) on Do not display the lock screen. Another dialog box appears.
Select Enabled and click Ok.

Suggested "trick" does not work on "basic" version of Windows 8, only on "pro"...
There may still be a way to remove the lock screen, by editing Windows Registry...
