AI tool: Pi 1.0

Pi 1.0 | Earendil

Core Release: Pi 1.0
Earendil has officially shipped Pi 1.0, a hardened, minimal, and extensible agent harness designed to serve as a stable coding agent and substrate for agentic applications.

Key new features in Pi 1.0 include:

  • Codemode: Native support for MCP, non-LLM models (e.g., Jev), and image models.

  • Model Extensions: Support for virtual models and deferred tool loading.

  • Performance: Cache warming for Anthropic models.

  • Dynamic Control: Mid-conversation system messages for transcript-aware prompt and tool adjustments.

  • UI Updates: Full-screen mode enabled by default and a new TUI theme.

Experimental Project: Pi Durable
Alongside Pi 1.0, Earendil introduced Pi Durable, an experimental package designed for long-running agentic applications outside the terminal. It provides a flexible architecture for longer-running tasks and multi-surface interactions while retaining Pi’s core principles of minimalism and super malleability.

computer architecture: Dive into Systems (online, book)

 Dive into Systems

Suzanne J. Matthews, West Point
Tia Newhall, Swarthmore College
Kevin C. Webb, Swarthmore College

Dive into Systems is a free, online textbook that serves as a gentle introduction to computer systems, computer organization, and parallel computing. The book is intended for an audience that has only a CS1 background. It guides readers through a vertical slice of a computer to develop an understanding of a variety of systems topics, including:

Dive Into Systems | No Starch Press ($55 ebook, $80 paper)

  • how a computer runs a program, from a program expressed in a high-level language to low-level binary representation and circuits

  • programming in C and Assembly (assuming a CS1 background)

  • introduction to operating systems and the systems costs that affect program performance (the memory hierarchy, caching, and code optimization)

  • introduction to parallel computing with shared memory and pthreads
